Jason x
This is the latest in the Jason Voorhees saga it is probably one of the worst out of them as, it is just pathetic how it is set in the future , but some of the music in it is used quite well. Take the title music for example this is a extremes build up of string and brass instruments it very power full and very dominating and even a little intimidating as it make the viewer uncomfortable another good example of this would be when Jason stabs through the chagrined chamber at the woman and stabs her with his machete the music is extremely over the top as she is running out of air the music goes with it to symbolise the fact that she is freezing to death.
There is a lot of use of string instruments in this film, this can be to represent suspense or fear or even a sense of an enigma, for example when the doctor is doing an autopsy on Jason the music is mysterious and with soft note from the violin and Chellos and long draw out notes from a bass.
When Jason kill some it the music is almost the same as the title music, this could be his moti, but just a little different, at alit bit of a faster tempo and more plunking from the stringed instruments, or with Sharpe stroke of the violin depend on how he kills them, most of the time is it a Sharpe stroke of the violins, this is mostly taken from psycho (the classic shower) this would be to represent the speed and the burtaily of his kills
night of the living dead
this film is one of the classic horror film the music through out this film is intensely creepy, the fact that its so old adds even more of an atmosphere to the horror aspect, its one of those films that as it gets older it get even more scary.
The use of the trumpet really gives you a feel of terror. The music is at a quite fast tempo and an also droning sense to it, with a steady beat ,but the stringed instrument bring a feeling of despair as the are all over the place, for example at the begging when Barbra is running away from the 1st zombie in the film this represent panic as he desperately try to get away from the zombie.
The use of high note through out this film is used well, this can be used to make add shock into the viewer to make them jump, for example when Barbra goes into the house this is used twice as she 1st see the mounted head of the deer and when she walk up the stairs to find the half eat skull of a human the music deliver a strong power piece to make the viewer jump or to be shocked as they don’t know what to expect next.
The structure of the music in the night of the living dead is usually a scaled descending or ascending then followed by chords, then a scale going back wards and for wards(00:16:50).
Music boxes are quite common in horror films as the contrast with the genre as the are a symbol or beauty and innocence and that contradicts he film or the environment it in.
Shaun of the dead
Even though this is a spoof horror film it still has some rather interesting pieces of music mainly they are just short sample or sound and have bin manipulated, very fast sharp and dramatic to add to the speed of things happening, and if there is music the music is high pitched.
An interesting part when they find out how to kill them (31:47) is start off with psycho type of music high pitched violins and scary then goes into a proper song hip hop sort, to add to the comedy side of it as then back into a sort new age horror stlye
Alien 3
The music through out this film is rather soft but at the same time epic and most of the time its music that get you on the edge of yours seat as well as the film it self. The usage of the instrument is played softly and used mainly brass giving it a smooth flowing genital sound and in some parts of the film it is epic
00:53:00
when the alien appears for the third time that brass instruments deliver a power full and full body impact.
Also when the fire brakes out the music is very powerful and at the end when riplie throws her self into the lead as well as bin powerful it also makes the viewer feel sad, and gives the audience a sense of sympathy
Constantine
The music in this film is rather relaxed and chilled out, even those it a film about a war between heaven and hell, who wins the souls, for example the first exorcism in the film the music isn’t epic all or even horrifying the fact the music is chilled out an relaxed is reflecting the emotion of john Constantia as he deals with the young girl, but before that when the mother o f the girl see her the music is very different as it embraces the full power of horror projecting the emotion of fear from the mother into the viewer .this is delivers the usage of brass instrument to create a shocking and devastation sound that also socked the viewer into fear . But johns is more relaxed showing the he knows what he doing and that he has done it many times before.
But he doesn’t rely have his own motif in the film.
When Dodson is watching the video of her twin jump of the building there is a cello in the background witch add even more sadness to the atmospeahre cellos are can play very low notes witch are god for depressing or sad music.
Another good use of music is Constantine and Dodson are in complete darkness and he used the light to expel the demons, the music build up before they come is evil nd sinister as it build up with stringed instrument as and brass, usually you expect tit to end in an explosion of the instruments clashing but the ends with the sound of the demons screaming and the fire staring then music stops as soon as the monsters starts to burn or come into the light were the viewer can see them thus give the viewer a feeling of what you cant see you fear most so when they come into the light you can see them and when there not the creepy scary music come into play.
But the most epic piece of music in the film is when john and his sidekick are trying to removed mammon from Dodson, the music low and has a very fast tempo keeps you on the edged of your seat as well as a little panic.
John Constantine sort of has a motif it’s the same music as you first hear in the very 1st exorcism but it only comes into play a few times in the film so I don’t think it cant really classed as his motif
Clover field
The fog
The music in this is rather creepy as the first piece of music we hear is a very slow piano witch creates a scary almost death feeling atmosphere, this piano is also used in other horror films such as jaws and Halloween and to make this even more terrorising this is played when an old sailor is telling a ghost story,
This film also utilizes low-pitched droning sound witch makes the viewer feel uncomfortable and realize some is not right hear.
When the fog 1st appears there again there is a low drowning sound this represent some thing in the paranormal, it reminds me of a stage in limbo as the sound get lauder the situation turn for the worse and as the kill stop the droning dies out.
You could call this the fogs motif
There also is a remarkable piece of music the sounds incredible like the Halloween them as the little boy Andy runs home with a piece of wood the says “Dane” the eerie piano comes in with short little riff and then it plays the same riff but sound like its played o a stringed instrument witch adds even more of a scary atmospheres to the situation as the wood was a gold coin.
As the priest read from the journal again the “paranormal” music comes in but this time is this a 5 note piece played by the piano.
