Evaluation
This project has bin my favourite as I have had a lot of interaction with citadel (the band) and also they gave me quite a bit of control with the DVD menu and the music video. I have learnt a lot over the past few months from recording gig to shooting on white screen (the infinity curve).
The hardest part to this for me was recording the live gig as this took a few attempts and the sound wasn’t exactly amazing and then when I did get it right finally there was some body stood in the way and you couldn’t see any of the band, and the set of the stage was really poor but I had nothing to do with that. The band ask me to record that gig as they wanted it to looked busy and it was a pretty big as they were playing with a big band. Also I had the camera set up on a tripod and I was taking pictures of the band so I couldn’t see what was going on I should have got somebody to help me and keep and eye on the camera, also I wanted t get another shot from behind the drummer but the amps were stacked so high and the cabs were as well that you couldn’t even see him.
The music video went ok had a few changes but still stuck to the same concept of the singer running around the woods and the “white rooms” cutting back in and out. That was mainly the bands idea and I just filmed it and put it together but I still had my input and ideas with it.
The DVD menu was mainly my idea but citadel gave me a rough idea of how they wanted and I came up with what I have now and they liked it.
They were also happy with photos, as I took a few from all of the gig I took pictures of and them selected the best ones,, well the ones I tough were the best.
The best thing I like about the DVD I made is the photo I took witch I’m every happy and also the actual animated DVD menu I made it in after effect and even though it is quite simple I think its rather effective and it fits in with there genre of music doomy metal and I thought the lighting and thunder and rain would be perfects as they have connotation of doom and gloom
One of things that I wasn’t happy with was the gig I actually used for the DVD as I said before some was stood in the way and it was hard getting a gig for them and they only had a few that I could go and record as some of the venues were to small a dark, and by the time I had resized it and every thing it was to late to re-record the gig and put it on the DVD.
But over all the band like this DVD and I enjoyed doing it again, if was to do it again I think I would make a better plan of was when to meet with the band and record but seem as they all work it was hard to get every one at the same time but it worked out well.

more horror films
Jason x
This is the latest in the Jason Voorhees saga it is probably one of the worst out of them as, it is just pathetic how it is set in the future , but some of the music in it is used quite well. Take the title music for example this is a extremes build up of string and brass instruments it very power full and very dominating and even a little intimidating as it make the viewer uncomfortable another good example of this would be when Jason stabs through the chagrined chamber at the woman and stabs her with his machete the music is extremely over the top as she is running out of air the music goes with it to symbolise the fact that she is freezing to death.
There is a lot of use of string instruments in this film, this can be to represent suspense or fear or even a sense of an enigma, for example when the doctor is doing an autopsy on Jason the music is mysterious and with soft note from the violin and Chellos and long draw out notes from a bass.
When Jason kill some it the music is almost the same as the title music, this could be his moti, but just a little different, at alit bit of a faster tempo and more plunking from the stringed instruments, or with Sharpe stroke of the violin depend on how he kills them, most of the time is it a Sharpe stroke of the violins, this is mostly taken from psycho (the classic shower) this would be to represent the speed and the burtaily of his kills
night of the living dead
this film is one of the classic horror film the music through out this film is intensely creepy, the fact that its so old adds even more of an atmosphere to the horror aspect, its one of those films that as it gets older it get even more scary.
The use of the trumpet really gives you a feel of terror. The music is at a quite fast tempo and an also droning sense to it, with a steady beat ,but the stringed instrument bring a feeling of despair as the are all over the place, for example at the begging when Barbra is running away from the 1st zombie in the film this represent panic as he desperately try to get away from the zombie.
The use of high note through out this film is used well, this can be used to make add shock into the viewer to make them jump, for example when Barbra goes into the house this is used twice as she 1st see the mounted head of the deer and when she walk up the stairs to find the half eat skull of a human the music deliver a strong power piece to make the viewer jump or to be shocked as they don’t know what to expect next.
The structure of the music in the night of the living dead is usually a scaled descending or ascending then followed by chords, then a scale going back wards and for wards(00:16:50).
Music boxes are quite common in horror films as the contrast with the genre as the are a symbol or beauty and innocence and that contradicts he film or the environment it in.
Shaun of the dead
Even though this is a spoof horror film it still has some rather interesting pieces of music mainly they are just short sample or sound and have bin manipulated, very fast sharp and dramatic to add to the speed of things happening, and if there is music the music is high pitched.
An interesting part when they find out how to kill them (31:47) is start off with psycho type of music high pitched violins and scary then goes into a proper song hip hop sort, to add to the comedy side of it as then back into a sort new age horror stlye
Alien 3
The music through out this film is rather soft but at the same time epic and most of the time its music that get you on the edge of yours seat as well as the film it self. The usage of the instrument is played softly and used mainly brass giving it a smooth flowing genital sound and in some parts of the film it is epic
00:53:00
when the alien appears for the third time that brass instruments deliver a power full and full body impact.
Also when the fire brakes out the music is very powerful and at the end when riplie throws her self into the lead as well as bin powerful it also makes the viewer feel sad, and gives the audience a sense of sympathy
Constantine
The music in this film is rather relaxed and chilled out, even those it a film about a war between heaven and hell, who wins the souls, for example the first exorcism in the film the music isn’t epic all or even horrifying the fact the music is chilled out an relaxed is reflecting the emotion of john Constantia as he deals with the young girl, but before that when the mother o f the girl see her the music is very different as it embraces the full power of horror projecting the emotion of fear from the mother into the viewer .this is delivers the usage of brass instrument to create a shocking and devastation sound that also socked the viewer into fear . But johns is more relaxed showing the he knows what he doing and that he has done it many times before.
But he doesn’t rely have his own motif in the film.
When Dodson is watching the video of her twin jump of the building there is a cello in the background witch add even more sadness to the atmospeahre cellos are can play very low notes witch are god for depressing or sad music.
Another good use of music is Constantine and Dodson are in complete darkness and he used the light to expel the demons, the music build up before they come is evil nd sinister as it build up with stringed instrument as and brass, usually you expect tit to end in an explosion of the instruments clashing but the ends with the sound of the demons screaming and the fire staring then music stops as soon as the monsters starts to burn or come into the light were the viewer can see them thus give the viewer a feeling of what you cant see you fear most so when they come into the light you can see them and when there not the creepy scary music come into play.
But the most epic piece of music in the film is when john and his sidekick are trying to removed mammon from Dodson, the music low and has a very fast tempo keeps you on the edged of your seat as well as a little panic.
John Constantine sort of has a motif it’s the same music as you first hear in the very 1st exorcism but it only comes into play a few times in the film so I don’t think it cant really classed as his motif
Clover field
The fog
The music in this is rather creepy as the first piece of music we hear is a very slow piano witch creates a scary almost death feeling atmosphere, this piano is also used in other horror films such as jaws and Halloween and to make this even more terrorising this is played when an old sailor is telling a ghost story,
This film also utilizes low-pitched droning sound witch makes the viewer feel uncomfortable and realize some is not right hear.
When the fog 1st appears there again there is a low drowning sound this represent some thing in the paranormal, it reminds me of a stage in limbo as the sound get lauder the situation turn for the worse and as the kill stop the droning dies out.
You could call this the fogs motif
There also is a remarkable piece of music the sounds incredible like the Halloween them as the little boy Andy runs home with a piece of wood the says “Dane” the eerie piano comes in with short little riff and then it plays the same riff but sound like its played o a stringed instrument witch adds even more of a scary atmospheres to the situation as the wood was a gold coin.
As the priest read from the journal again the “paranormal” music comes in but this time is this a 5 note piece played by the piano.

insperation for last project
What film inspired me to make this film were evil dead:2 even though this is a realy old horror I think it set a mile stone for all other horror films , I just love he fact there are no special effect every thing is either a prop or made in small scale ,this take a lot of effort and I think that just add to the atmosphere of the film, it one of those films that I can never get board of.
There are quite a few gory parts in it and seem that at the time the there weren’t many special effect ever thing was done by have as so to speak so I wanted to have that in my film but then again I did want to have some sort of special effect in it, the make u from evil dead2 was really inspiriting to me if you take the part were Bruce turns in to that demonic version of him self it all make up and a bit of latex this is what I want to achieve in my film.
Another film that inspired me was Alfred Hitchcock psycho as this film I THE millstone for all other horror films as it has the classic murder in the shower with the violins and its about a man who think mother still alive and dresses up like and kills guest who stay at his hotel, that fact that you don’t know realy much or even any thing about this “psycho” is quite the enigma and I liked that but you do get a rough idea of what has happened to him towards the end I want to again incorporate this into my film, in away you don’t know relay what’s happened but some how you can tell
And thre3rd film that inspired me was planet terror now this is a dedication to all other horror films as it had similar part form other films like for example when the stripper lose her leg and then get it replaced with a machine gun-evil dead Bruce get a chainsaw on his hand when he cut of his own, also this film is ridicules gore just for the sake of it head exploding every were guts falling out from every were, it just fantastic but some time you think to your self this is a bit of a spoof, but none the less good, it more of an action horror thriller but still has load of aspect of horror. Usually in horror films these always people that survived like in planet terror and all the other film I have described, but in the film I’m making I want no one to survive, as I think his make it a good horror films personally I don’t like when people survive but then again you can argue that how will the story get passed and so on and on. So these are my inspection for the film I have made all classice horror films with a little bit of action mixed in with them.

in the dvd you will able to select and view picture that i have take of citadel, the way i have go about this is having a slide show but what there is a few problems i came across in this or things i need to take into consideration witch is how long the slides are going to on the screen for or have them all as individual chapter in witch case you can skip through them and pause it so you can look at them better al made in the photos have a behind the screens part witch would be pictures of recording the video, again this could be a separate chapter in witch you can skip through .
and also at the moment i have around 189 picture of citadel some of the are good but some are a bit shit so i will have to sort them out.
this is hat i have so far as a slid show for some reason a few of the pic are horizontal and are not suppose to i think that because of the size of them but i can iron that out later there are take and the packhorse and at the subculture sadly seem the basest broke his finger they had to cancel a gig and then a few other so they could teach some on els to play for them in the mean time but yet again some thing happened and they had to cancel another gig so i have actual got as manny photos as id like but there will more coming up in the easter holidays

influences
for the music video the first few video i look at were tool and mastodon the videos that cautgh my eye were iron tusk by mastodon as the video had a lot of the band going in and out of focus, so when i come round to recording the live footage part for the music video on wednesday i mite use this technique as it will give a powerful vibe to the video, also there was stinkfist by tool as it has a extremely weird them to it as do nearly all of the other tool song, i was think about incorporating as very strange them to the video but it didn't go with what the song was about so i decided to scrap the idea, as well as the other idea i got from another tool video parabola witch used stop animation witch again didn't go with meaning of the song-which is to go mental, so after having a chat with the band at the pub we came to a conclusion that it would be a good idea to get the singer of the band(josh) to run around a wood or forest, but if you look at typical metal videos you see that quite a few bands use a wood, forest or mountains to show how "metal" they are so that idea bin a bit cliché we decided to have josh running round a few different locations.
i have found the 3 location and just need to photograph the other location also see if it ok to film on there seem as it is in quarry but i will upload the picture in my next blog, and also i will be taking pictures on wednesday or an extra camera to show the making of the live footage, and this thursday there is another gig down at the subculture so i am going to have 2 camera and turn the level down on the cameras so i can have a decent sound and record it on a dictaphone again so i have a back up track, seems i have ready recorded @ the subculture i have a rough idea of what to this time and learn from my miskteaks last time

why have i done this
i have decided to make a music DVD a full blow one not just a music video because its some thing i enjoy doing and its some tihng i fell im better at than making say a film again also the reason i have decied to do it for citadel is because i have always enjoyed there music and have played with them a number of times, they are also stopping play as one of them is moving away frmo leeds so i though it wud a nice if they had some thing to rember the past few years, and this project has alot more practical side to it witch i enjoy like going out and recoding or looking around for locations, i have alos had a lot interaction witht then band as i want alot of there imput as it is there song and seem "the song is a bout going mental basicly" as chris said i thought it would b a good idea t get the singer to aimlessly runn around he a bit of a nutter as well so shunt be to hard.

Conclusion
I have come the conclusion that music puts so much emotion and feeling behind a film or a certain scene , from the notorious shower scene by Alfred Hitchcock to the seduction of Elizabeth in Bram Stocker’s Dracula, music had a grip on the viewer and takes you there into the film as if you were there your very self.
I have looked at three different film all from different time periods from the early 60’s to 2006. These all share the same genre but all have different styles of music. They all are horrifying and do a really good job of making you feel either scared or in pure horror.
If take the earliest film “Psycho” this was setting a milestone for all horror films either to live up to this or go home and try again, this film for its time was amazing and very influential. Throughout out the years so many films have taken the music and used it to either represent a killing (the classic shower part) by either take the 3 note staccato or the high pitched violins. The music in all 3 of the films case studied here has one key thing in common- it acts as a motif to emphasise the entrance of the anti-hero and his evil doing. For example if you take Dracula when Lucy is in the red dress and is looking for Dracula when he bites her the violins come in. This is to represent the teeth sinking into her neck and in Psycho they share high pitched note represent the knife going into Mariana. Also the title is used 3 times in the film to represent panic and to show her fear. You can see this again in Texas chainsaw massacre at the beginning where the title music is a variation of Leatherface’s motif since the film is pretty much about him you can see why they use it a lot more.
The motifs for all the films are done extremely well. If we take psycho’s motif this comes into play when he is killing some body or he is the “mother”. The first time is when kills Mariana in the shower and then when he kills the PI. When he attacks the victims the music comes in almost straight away with music being so sharp and fast to reflect the manner of the killing. The music comes out of nowhere make the viewer jump, because they are not expecting it, also as if Alfred Hitchcock uses the element of surprise on the viewer. Again this is proven when Marina goes into the fruit cupboard and finds the corpse of his mother. When she turns the chair round soon as you see the decrepit face of the mother the music comes in and then it builds up as the Psycho burst into the room wielding the knife. This is a perfect example of the point being made- music heightens horror as well as signalling its advance.
The motif in TCM is very different as it’s a build up and sounds extremely evil and twisted to represent the personality of Leatherface. This comes into play again either when Leatherface is killing someone or he has been called for. We see this when he acquires his chainsaw and for example he kills the biker that infiltrated their house, the other music in it is extremely evil as well as e.g. when Leatherface is first found the music is unbelievably evil. This to represent the fact that Thomas Hewitt was found in a bin, that he was so deformed that not even any body in the factory would look after him as there own epically when his mother died in labour!
Another horrifying piece of music in this film is when the new sheriff Hoyt is re-born the music as he is putting his uniform on has a grate sense of wrongness about it as he is now the new sheriff and only law enforcement in this small dammed town, and the fact you know what he is going to add to the fear and horror of this. When he gets his new mask from Dean this is a variation of Leatherface’s, motif as is probably to mark his new mask and a new chapter in his life, because the mask he now has look more like the one in the original Texas chainsaw massacre . The music is so evil, even more than his motif seems. This is a variation and not his actual motif. This could be to show how truly disturbing he actually is by the music changing slightly shows how Leatherface is changing as well by getting his new mask almost a new level of evilness and who truly sick he is. The greater the horror here; the louder and more imposing the music become. In Texas Chainsaw Massacre we can see the use of music in varied way- volume and amount of music are manipulated to express levels of evil doing. This contrasts with the conclusions drawn about the music in Psycho which, it could be argued, is more subtle until the moment of death/horror when the staccato notes come into play.
Now Dracula’s motif is more to show his emotion as we see. The first piece of music is his motif and as it starts out slow and soft with Chellos and other string instrument it then builds up and all the other brass instruments come in and show the full power of it. Then again through out the film it comes in and it does make you scared for example when Harker is get seduced by the vampires at the end of that scene he throws them a baby to eat and the motif backs up the sheer horror of them eating a baby. The music in Draculas is not just his motif but goes a stage further- it represents his feelings and psychological state as well as his evil doing. This is very deep and a lot of emotion is attracted to it do with his past life, for example how Elizabeth is a reincarnation of his wife from centenary ago. Through the music in Dracula we see his emotion as well as his fear, but it also works to put fear into the viewer.
Another common link between these films, and others of their type, is that most of the music used in these horror films is orchestral and not actual song done by bands. This works very well as it adds more of a fear/horror fact to them. A lot of emotion in films is portrayed by music either to represent the emotion or to back the feeling up. The most effective ways, it could be argued, are demonstrated by taking the part in Dracula when he is reminiscing about his love for Elizabeth and the sad pathetic music comes in and contrasting this with the scene in TCM where Leatherface removes Dean’s face to create his mask and shows his truly evil nature. This shows orchestral music representing 2 ends of the emotional scale: horror and romance. Both of these pieces of music are done orchestrally and work both very well even though they are to represent complete opposites. They are done with the same instruments but work in completely different way, showing how wide the rage of an orchestra is. We can see from this study that music plays a vital role in signalling and portraying the development of emotions, feelings and horror in 3 key films.

intro redone
This dissertation I will explore the role of music in horror films and in what way this makes the film and the emotion come to life through the power of music.
This arises from my interest in filmmaking, where a study of music and sound has broadened my personal understanding of horror films and the emotions and feelings being conveyed in them. Music and sound enables the film maker to convey horror more intensely and gives greater power to the storyline. It is arguable that music can convey emotion more powerfully than sound effects or visuals do on their own. This can be measured by a simple experiment- if you were to watch a horror film without the musical backing it would undoubtedly be less frightening.
Psycho, the music was essential to the mood, and some extended scenes... like Marion's long drive to the Bates Motel... were entirely dependent upon the soundtrack. The music goes far beyond the famous screeching violins, and sets the unbalanced, trembling tone for the whole film.( http://benefitofthedoubt.miksimum.com/2008/09/hitchcock-theories-on-birds-and-psycho.html)
Most horror films have a wide range of music from any thing to actual song or an orchestra. Often people assume horror film soundtracks are fairly low brow
Are some sounds worthier than others eg classical rather than pop, symphony rather than a horror film sound track (Lastra, J. in Altman R, p74)
but many use highly complicated classical pieces of music for example if you take the new Omen that is a really good example of orchestra music, mainly Christian orchestra though as this makes it a lot more horrific as it is do with the child of Satan. The fact that they are using Christian music to portray the sheer horror makes it even worse because it could be argued that the devil and Christians don’t exactly go hand in hand .Also it could be seen as blasphemy as well using the music of Christians that is sung in “god’s house” to make the child of Satan look even more terrifying than he already is.
Another side of music in horror films are actual songs by recognised bands, using the construction of the song- verse, chorus, verse, pre chorus etc. It is rare that the whole song would be used but parts of the song will be selected to fit to the emotion that is being shown. For example the film Planet Terror which is a collaboration and dedication- a tribute- to all the other horror film that have been so influential to all other director. Music is used, for example when they come out of the police station and the zombie’s start attacking the station. The heavy metal riff comes in, which is more to add to the action part but still works with the horror aspect as kind of drives the horror into with this fast paced song.
This study will look at pieces of music as opposed to songs. Not all horror films use song. If you take Texas Chainsaw Massacre, at the beginning you see that a lot of the horror sound music is more a long droning sound but at the same time it has a structure to it and it is made into a piece of music.
In almost every horror film there is a musical motif for a character and this is probably one of the strongest points to be made about music in the film, as this gives you the idea of what is going to happen. You don’t exactly know its going to happened but you know it’s going to be some thing bad. For example when leather face kills the manger of the slaughterhouse and then picks up the chainsaw his motif kicks in to play and this you know this it the start of the Texas chainsaw massacre, and that does send a shiver down your spine as you that the worse is yet to come, and also in Dracula when Jonathon Haker goes into the room with the bed and starts to hear women’s voices and the motif for Dracula comes in, you know again something dreadful is going to happen. As he sits down there is a build of this music and then soon as they are about it bite him and feed on him Dracula comes in and that’s when the full horror of his music come in.
This study will present analysis of how horror is brought to life by music in 3 horror films by using audio visual methods.
If you take Texas Chainsaw Massacre, at the beginning you see that a lot of the horror sound music is more a long droning sound but at the same time it has a structure to it and it is made into a piece of music.

texas chainsaw notes
3:00-3:40 the music in this is so unbelievable sinister it sound like Satan him self has made this the pat in the film is were the mother has died and a tramp Luna Mea has found leather face in the bin as a babe so like an other fucked up Texan would do she took it home, the music really give u and idea and feel of what the TCM family are really like twisted! The music is realy long low note but some sort of melody behind them as a drum beat or as a few simple notes, the particular music, I think is leather face motif as it come into play when first get his chain saw and at the end when he is walking into the darkness.
11:50-12:44 after leather face has bin told to leave he goes to kill the manger this music adds to the killing but also to the action but im not looking at the action part when he hits the manager the music is a slow noise sort of music and this give me the idea that he not feeling about any thing that he is doing when it comes to killing, almost that he is in a trance and the music help to portray that, also When letherface kills the manager fast orchestral music comes in but only for the first 2 hits, this then startles the viewer and the blows to the head startles the manager as well this is why there is only a few seconds of the music
After this he see a chainsaw on the table the motif starts of this , the camera then pans down to a full view of the chainsaw and this is when the motif has its full power striking fear in to the viewer
12:55-137:17-this again I think is the leather face motif when he gains his legendary chainsaw the music is almost disturbing to a appoint hat he now taken the chainsaw and you know what he is going to do with it
16:56-17:225 the father or adopted father of leather face has killed the sheriff and has taken his cloths to become the sheriff him self the music that come into play when he is putting on the uniform is how to say wrong, as he has just killed the only sheriff and now is posing as the law him self witch is also wrong so you view knowing this think that is wrong and the music in this part back it up very well and
add more fear and horror to it, as he is seen as a horror him self.
Road trip:all of this group is in the car this is a really good example of how music goes from diageic to non-digetic as the music comes when there going down the road it then quietens down to a almost bad sound but then you realise it coming from the radio now,
29:12-29:49 this again sound like the motif but then this add more horror to the face the she knows this “sheriff that that come to help just killed the biker and has now go off with her friends and she by her self.
42:20- 43:27the music in the seen is more scary than any thing as Dean and Eric are stuck and one is wanting to get away and but the sheriff is beating him so he has no energy this more or of a moral horror as it make feel how could some body do that to some one the music does emprises the beating that the boy is getting and the twisted the mother Luda is wiping the dirt from the girls forehead whilst she sing a nursery rhyme
59:00- this more gore but the horror aspect is still pretty strong through out this bit leather face cut the bike in half with a chainsaw again the music similar to the motif because it has the orestera feel to it and the heavy drone sound with the drums but its not till 100:0 that the actual motif kick in to the full blow power
101:48-103: 22gain the motif represents the horror and the actual twisted ness of Lethe face and how his mask came to be, with music so slow and horrifying this really put fear and horror into the viewer. It does give u the image of some thing satanic if not devilish. the orchestra give a more satanic feel it again some thing that is not meant to be. when letherface gains his new mask slow sad horrible music comes in this contradicts it self as there is a grate act of horror going on hear, but on the other hand it can show the feeling or emotion that Chrissie is going through to watch her boy friend get his face take off and then this complied twisted man out it on him self, the music is a variation of the motif to with where he is it’s a very dingy dark flooded caller and them music is grim and horrid to represent this.
109:55 the family is sitting down to have tea and the music creepy as fuck this kind of sound like leather faces motif but this has more violins in it and when “Hoyt” say grace It builds up with the drums and string combing in leading u to feel some thing bad going to happened but then he just stop saying grace.
113:32 this music’s would strik fear into any one its very jumpy the begging with sort abrupt notes and a strange drum beat sound very industrial.
115:55 this is were leather face is chasing the girl through the woods with his legendary chainsaw so the music needs to be fast and epic the violins to make you feel as if the music is running with and that every step is a stroke on the strings.
120:30-121:22 leather face finally get them all when you think its all over he in back seat of the car and put the chainsaw through Chrissie and the seat and then he walks off in to the darkness carrying his chain saw and then his motif kick and really dark and evil ending with this music as if say you’ll see him another day some time soon…

personal statement
I am currently studying at Leeds Collage of Art and Design for a BA HONS degree in design for digital media. I am extremely interested in the film industry and I am hoping to be able to become employed within this sector. My portfolio currently includes a short horror film, a music video and an ident for channel 4. In addition to this I am currently working on my final major project in which I am making a full music DVD for a Citadel, a progressive metal band, from Leeds. The DVD will include a music video, a recording of a live performance and a selection of photos, with the photography by myself.
I first realised how much I enjoy making films and videos when I made a music video for my old band, Hellgrind. I enjoyed every part of the construction process, right from drawing up the storyboards to editing it and putting it all together. What makes filming so exciting and enjoyable to me is that fact that it is a practical task, which is what I enjoy mostly. Furthermore I get a great sense of achievement and pride in watching my work come together and come alive after I have finished editing it. When I first started making my short horror film I didn’t realise how many jobs were involved in the process, from aspects such as make up to aspects such as special effects. I took on the tasks involved in the film making process finding that I enjoyed every part of making it.
My interests when I am not in collage include music, drawing, photography and socialising. At present I am in a death metal band in which I am a vocalist. I enjoy performing on stage as well as being in the audience when I am watching other bands performing. Furthermore, I play the guitar and enjoying practicing this at home as well as with my friends. As well as music, another hobby I have is drawing in my spare time I enjoy experimenting with different designs and techniques as well as doing montages and sketching storyboards. I have also designed several tattoos for both friends and myself. Finally, I also have quite a new hobby of photography. I enjoy taking pictures of anything from interesting buildings and architect to motion pictures of moving cars and people.
I have a part time job working in a pizza takeaway in Chapel Allerton, which I have worked at for 5 and a half years. I feel I have a very good relationship with the staff there, as I have been part of the team there for several years. I think that working there for so long shows that I get along easily, even when working with people in a busy environment. I also work well as part of a group because I am good at communicating with people and get tasks done effectively and efficiently. I also get along with new people very well and I am easy to approach and feel that I am very friendly towards others.
My ideal job would definitely be in the filming industry and would include the film making process but probably also include aspects more towards concept or editing.
When I aim for a goal I work hard towards achieving it. I am a hard working person and I am keen to take on and complete any task given to me. I am also keen to explore and learn new things as well progress in the area of moving image.

dracular notes
at the begging Dracula is about to go to war he kisses Elesabeta this show a lot of passion, he then goes to war and the music builds up ad get mote intense just as the war does this is shown by him impaling and killing other soldiers, and the motife is almost of a military sort
At 16:47 there’s this sad and hight pitched music that comes in although the violins deliver a sad and almost pathetic sound there is a the droning sound of a cello or double bass making the horror part of this stand out, the two work rather well together, creating the emotion of sadness but then reminding you that is Dracula and that he is evil and that is done by the low parts.
At 22:00-22:35 the camera pans over to the mina murryand then it all becomes dark an this weird music box music come in and a shadow goes over her the shadow is Dracula’s but its had a windy noise in the back ground making it more sinister and more horror like and the music comes to a slow down almost to a stop creating a more scary atmosphere putting a little more fear in the viewer.
24:13 this is a build up to what I call evil the music extremely sinister and slow getting louder and louder until then the insane man attack the doctor and then the music kicks in full blast.
28:12 Dracula crawls down the wall and this slow almost fantasy music comes in what make t fantasy is that the harp us pretty predominant in this part but still is weird seeing a man crawl down a vertical wall it reminded me of spider man but he more like a super hero’s villain or bad guy , witch adds more fantasy to this part
31:00-34:08 Again this motif of Dracula music comes in again when Jonathan Harker get seduced by the female vampire but this time is starts out soft with cellos and very smooth as he is get touched but the vampire then it get worse and as the situation gets worse the music get more louder and rough as the try to feed on him then when Dracula come in the fill blow evilness off the music comes in and dies down but then stars up again with the droning cellos also whenthen Dracula burst in to the room and tells them to stop get away from Harker as he belongs to him, they the ask “do we not get to eat” then throws them a baby to eat this is when the motif is a at is full because this is a grate act of evil that has bin done..
37:00-42:00the camera pans over the zoo and a similar sort of motif comes in but this time is different with a quire over the top of it sound like a hyme of some sort and then has a woman on her own adding to the intensity of this, also shows you Dracula in a were wolf form as well and Lucy the red head has hear Dracula’s call and then gone out to find him in the garden, the music when she roaming around looking for is that of just 3notes (like “Halloween” and “jaw” bother there motif have just 3 note but work very well and there are know around the world)the scale of this toy sound piano is going descending just like Lucy is in the fact that she is soon to become a vampire and also this has a group of men song over the top of it, it is quite a slow sounding music but then it has short sharp notes when he close to the werewolf and then violins kick when he has bitten her, this could represent him sinking his teeth into Lucy’s neck this could be her turning point to evil?
indicate that the fangs are sinking through her skin, her conversion to evil.
49:50 the motif comes in again when Dracula dances with his love and she figures out who Dracula really is and he try to bite her and at the peak of the song he cannot bring him self to do it.
55:45 a very quite and soft melody is played but its still a bit airy and then thing take to worse and more evil essence
57:04 the music in this part practically has a lot of tensioning it you can tell just buy listening to the music and also puts fearing to the part of this.
101:02-101:53 wired music box music again but this time he is try to seduces her also a very strong point of fantasy is in this part the hole absinth bit because back in those day and still probably now it was so strong that it made you hallucinate so when he talking about the fairy that lives in the absinth you can see how the corresponds with the fantasy aspect.
116:47 again this is what I call a build of evil in this particular part Dracula is going to find his "love" but she gone to marry her fenoce and the music build up to a grate sense of evil and it has Christian orchestra feel and image to it but as it builds up it a final explosion of music loud and powerful as if all hell was let loose.
124:03 reminds me again of psycho with sharp stabbing notes but this time there driving a steak though her heart and then finally cut her head off but the music in this is not exactly the same it builds up and it does give the view a chill down your spine just from the music.
Dracula’s motif comes in nearly every time Dracula is angry or if some other vampire is feeding or going to reed on a victim, this is most likely that is shows a grate evil feeding on a human vampires are supposed to Satan angles or devils children, witch explains the evil and sinister music that come into the act of evil that
is done
more in-depth notes
When Dracula and mina are alone in the bedroom he tells her exactly what he is and a slow evil music begging to hit him in anger the music get launder and launder as she refuses to believe him, it then cuts to doctor van helsing blessing a fire soft long cello sound comes into show acts of good it almost sounds angelic/heavenly sounding when the tow are kissing soft music comes in to show that Dracula has a soft humane side to him even though he calls him self a monster, and the fact they want to be together is evidence of this, but the only way to do this is if he becomes a vampire to and he cant bring him self to do this, as we seen earlier on in the film, the music builds up when she is trying to drink from him, the blood music to show their passion for each other ot the strength of their love.

Rationale
for this i am make a full on music DVD for a leeds based band called: www.myspace.com/citadelyorkshire there a progressive metal band this a little different to what i normally listen to(death, black, thrash and grind metal) but iv seen this band a number of times and played with them quite alot, and have a lot of respect for them.
the other day i met up with the band founder and had a little chat about what i was going to and what he would like to me to do or if they had any obligation to my ideas, so we decided that next week me and the band wouyld all meet up to disscus a stroy bord for a song they choosen ect.
